Hybrid black Everbearing mulberry

with year-round fruiting

Another mulberry variety recognized as one of the best mulberry varieties in the world. The trees are extremely vigorous, and the fruits are very large and taste wonderful. The fruits are loaded with useful substances and antioxidants, and are mainly used for fresh consumption, but they are also used to make very tasty sweets and jams. Ripening of the first crop begins in May and often continues into June, with all fruits ripening in about 3 weeks. The fruits develop on the new branches of the last growth, therefore pruning is necessary for them to bear fruit again in the same year. This is done immediately after the first crop has ripened, thus stimulating the development of new fruit branches and new fruits. Under Bulgarian conditions, up to three crops can be obtained in a year, but only the first crop is very large, and the fruits of each subsequent crop become smaller because of the weakening sun and decreasing day length after the month of June, which leads to a weakening of photosynthesis . In countries with a warmer climate, where temperatures do not drop below zero, this variety of mulberry produces between 4 and 5 harvests per year. In Bulgaria, the variety was tested in a greenhouse and produced 5 harvests, two of them during the winter.

The trees are completely cold-resistant for Bulgaria's climate. But there is a catch - they are cold-resistant when there is a cold winter. This mulberry variety does not enter into a deep dormancy and begins to develop as soon as the first longer warm spells occure in January. If temperatures later drop below -5 or -6 degrees, twigs may freeze, and sometimes entire old trees may freeze. Therefore, this variety is not recommended for places in southern Bulgaria that are exposed to temperature inversions. Cold regions are best suited, where warming is not very intense and does not allow early development while still in the peak of the winter.

The fruits develop on the new branches of the spring growth, therefore pruning is advisable in early spring to shorten last year's branches and thus stimulate branching and more abundant fruiting.

The plants on sale are intended for planting in the ground, so they are planted in a regular garden soil, which greatly helps for their establishment in the ground.
